Musical Theatre Summer School 2008

Based on L. Frank Baum's classic tale - this week long Summer School will bring to life the enchanted world of the Wizard of Oz. Your child will go on an exciting journey packed with song, dance and improvisation. They will make some great new friends along the Yellow Bick Road taking their cues from Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Cowardly Lion, The Scarecrow, The Good Witch of the North, and The Wizard of the Emerald City. But where is the Wicked Witch of the West...

This Junior Summer School, for 5 - 8/9 year olds, is led by a young, energetic team of actors, musicians and dancers who will inspire and encourage your child in their Wizard of Oz adventures. We can assure you there will be plenty of laughter throughout the week and parents are invited along on the last afternoon to see the dances and hear the songs, laugh along with the 'drama' and view the artistic characters, winged monkeys, the Ruby Slippers, not to mention many other treats ...We all have to help Dorothy get home to Kansas...

With story-time, play-time and film-time also included in the basic programme of dance, song, drama and improvisation, we can assure your child of a magical experience, and one they will want to repeat time and time again with us! On the Friday afternoon Parents are able to come and watch what they have learnt.

Dance: working with our professional dancer, our team will teach the children dance routines and movement in association to the story line.

Story Time/ Making a Drama: Taking story time to another level, your child will become part of the story! We take the Wizard Of Oz stories and then work on making even more of a drama of them with the children. They will discover how to express the story in their on enviable styles.

Sing: Working with the team, your child will learn some of the fabulous songs from the Wizard Of Oz, set in - you guessed it - Dorothy's imagination. "Follow the Yellow Brick Road", "You're Off to See the Wizard", "If I Only Had a Brain", "If I Only Had a Heart", "If I Only Had the Nerve/We're Off To See The Wizard". We will explore all the songs in this beloved Musical.

Arts and Crafts: Working in groups, children will start to make their own visions of the Emerald City, The Yellow Brick Road, the monkeys masks, the Witches Hats and have a chance to become characters in this wonderful story - Will they be - The Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, The Scarecrow, Dorothy, Wicked Witches, Munchkins, Wizards, Monkeys, or your own characters. Let's try and make some costumes for all our little adventurers on this exciting Summer school. Other Wizard of Oz adventures will include exploring Courage, finding a Brain; finding the Emerald City; and defeating the Wicked Witch of the West.
